System Overview
The Q. system is powered by Microsoft. This means that functionality, security and reliability are on the forefront of technology. The Q. system can be used in the stand-alone computer environment, networked environment and in a Share-drive configuration.
Correspondingly, it can also be configured as a shared database file, a split database or a Share-point site. (installation is required in any server or split database configuration)
Operating Platform
The Q. system (and associated products) is designed to be installed on the Microsoft Windows 32 or 64 bit operating system on the user’s workstation. Preference is for the 32 bit system for best operating performance.
Back-up System
There is no specifications around a back-up system, however, it is highly recommended that however it is installed, a back-up strategy be developed.
In most networked environments, this will consist of a daily back-up which will suffice. However, should this be a standalone system, then ensure that an excellent quality external hard drive is utilized.
Printers
There is no specific requirements for the printer. A laser printer is recommended for all printed material. Only a good quality printer from major brands should be used. Our preferred brand is Canon.
The printable areas within the Q-system are scaled to A4 sized paper.

The “Stand-alone” system configuration means only one computer manipulates the database. Q.Data only resides within this one station and therefore alert functionality will be diminished.
In this configuration, the option for a split database is not required. Should the Stand-alone computer become networked, it is recommended that the database be split for greater performance. A single computer will need to be designated as the host station, acting much like a server with other computers having access into the database.

The Q. system is built to be used immediately after installation. However, additional requirements may need to be addressed based on complexity of networked environment.
Practice Configuration
The 2.0 Version is built for the small to medium general practice with 10,000 or less patients. The network environment should be 7 or less workstations.
Disclaimer
MediShare Limited (NZ) has developed this specification sheet as the best balance between performance, reliability and security. Due to the possible variation of network and non-worked computers aspects of the database tool may vary. However, being developed from a Microsoft application and its in-built flat structure means that the clear majority of configurations will experience high performance levels.
